Looking back at my preliminary task, what I you feel I have learnt from the progression from it to full product?
I feel I have learned a lot from preliminary to final since my group and I took the preliminary way too seriously and thought it was the final project or something so we have definitely learnt to listen next time. There is so much I have learned in regards to filming and editing. I did not know how to trim a piece of video when we edited the preliminary task and I didn't know how to add additional sound or use fade-ins and outs. Since then, the final ask went great. Some parts a little rough around the edges but it is a vast improvement on what was the preliminary. In the shot above, you can see a close-up camera shot of Mr. Vicini circling a house (final) and the man walking to the table while the personas hand is closest to the camera (preliminary). Technically are both close-ups only the preliminary has something going on behind it in the background. You can see in the final how my group and I experimented with high angles and low angles.
The preliminary task and the final changed a lot in terms of location as well as props and costume. We had access to the school for the preliminary but with the final, we could film anywhere which gave us more options in terms of plot and genre. The shot above shows two full body shots, one from the final and one from the preliminary ask. A lot of our shots are related between the two and our costume for the main character was similar too, just smartly dressed.
Another two full shots... Harry was acting in the final so it was easier to film since the preliminary had just me acting both roles...
This is the big one; these are an example of match on action used within our projects. The one on the left shows Mr. Vicini taking out the bin bag of bodies while the one on the right shows the man walking over to the table and sitting down. Match on action really helped the flow of each video and fitted in well with what we were trying to do. You can see how we got the idea of using it from the preliminary task but we ever used shot/reverse shot since there is no speech in the final task. If I could go back, I would fit something in like that.
I carried a lot of my knowledge over from preliminary to final and see the preliminary as more of an experiment now. An experiment in which I have learned from and will always do so in the future. Next time, I will include more of the brief for the preliminary within my final.
